West Allis Police Reserve
The Unit started in 1942 as a Civil Defense Program during World War II. In 1972 they became known as the West Allis Police Reserves. The Reserves are a non-profit service organization comprised of approximately 30 volunteers who assist the Police Department.
The reserves provide security at civic events, traffic control during parades along with a variety of other services to the city, all at no cost to the city. Applicants must be 18 years of age, be of good moral character, and possess the need for a strong commitment to our community.
Reserve officers are required to attend monthly meetings, which include a short business session, followed by some form of training, usually given by a member of the police department. Reserve officers work with local organizations such as Special Olympics, the West Allis Chamber of Commerce, WA/WM School District and the Community Alliance Against Drugs (CAAD) program.
Motivation comes from working with other reserve members towards a common goal, and knowing that they are helping the community.
